Cindy Sheehan Arrested for Wearing Anti-War Tee-Shirt
Cindy Sheehan is perhaps the most controversial person to be banned because of a tee shirt. Cindy Sheehan was invited to the state of the union speech given by President Bush. A prestigious event by all accounts. She was invited by Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey of California. When she arrived, she was dress conservatively, and was seated.
Congresswoman Woolsey was in for a big surprise. Cindy Sheehan had kept covered up an anti war slogan on her tee shirt until she was seated. She somberly displayed the tee shirt as the President made his speech. The tee shirt simply read the number of United States soldiers that were killed to date in Iraq.
Cindy Sheehan’s son being one of those numbers. Police promptly escorted her out of the building and arrested her for demonstrating in a public building. Cindy Sheehan was held till after the speech, and the charges were reduced to misdemeanor charges and she was released on her own recognizance.
Cindy, like so many Americans who express their view by designing and wear their own tee shirts.
In a country where free speech is guaranteed, where does it say “Only in certain places?”
