Controversial Tee Shirts pulled at Abercrombie and Fitch
Abercrombie and Fitch, a retailer based in Ohio, pulled tee shirts off the racks in (April 2002), after receiving multiple complaints from consumers in the Asian community. They shirts depicted Chinese laundry workers, and Buddha Bashing.
This has outraged the Chinese community who claim that the shirts are racially insensitive, forcing the major retailer to pull the shirts from the racks. The Chinese community felt that the shirts although the shirts were meant to be a parody, and to be humorous, the Asian community found it to be demeaning and stereotyping of the Asian community.
The shirts sold for twenty-five dollars, and in a strange turn of events, the shirts made their way to e-bay. The shirts have sold for more than two hundred and fifty dollars.
