Girl Sues School Over Confederate Clothes
A high school sophomore her family has filed a lawsuit trying to force school officials in her school district to allow the girl to wear clothes with Confederate flag images. School officials have maintained that it is against dress code policy. The federal lawsuit was filed on behalf of the teen and her family by the North Carolina-based Southern Legal Resource Center, a Confederate heritage legal advocacy group. Candice Hardwick is a motivated, smart 15-year-old girl who is proud of her heritage. She is also proud of the fact that her ancestor fought in the civil war.
Wearing the confederate flag on her shirt is a way of paying tribute to the memory of that ancestor that fought and died for her country. School official stated that the symbol is racially charged and is very disruptive in class. Candace claims that she has been harassed, suspended two times and has been forced to wear her shirt inside out.
