T-Shirt Exhibition Banned in Poland

Recently, the president of a university in Warsaw Poland made the decision, to ban a tee shirt exhibition. The university faculty has stated that having certain slogans on tee shirts offend the beliefs of some and could be construed by others as harassment or Anti -Semitic. The tee shirts at the exhibition had very explicit material printed on them, was banned. School officials felt that the material was inappropriate, as young people would be attending. After learning that the tee shirt exhibition would have slogans that referred to different sexual orientations, religion, and bodily functions, the strict Roman Catholic community objected to it.

The tee shirt exhibition was to be funded by the Helsinki Federation for Human Rights; it was supposed to have opened with the annual film festival. The film festival was cancelled in protest of the tee shirt exhibition being banned. The Helsinki Federation was outraged when they were notified of the cancellation.

The purpose of the debate was to try and open debates on the freedom of speech in Poland. When the President of the university made the decision to cancel the tee shirt exhibition, it showed that the strict policies of Poland are not ready for change.
